Teen Education

Upon admission to Paradigm San Francisco, all teens are given a comprehensive educational assessment.  This assessment provides useful information regarding the teens’ current educational struggles, needs, goals, and requirements, which our classroom teacher and treatment team can then use, in coordinating academic needs into the greater treatment plan.  It’s very common for teens struggling with mental health and/or substance abuse struggles to fall behind in their studies.  By designing an individualized educational plan at the very start of teens’ treatments, we’re able to support teens to catch up and regain strong academic standing.

Paradigm San Francisco Classroom

At Paradigm San Francisco, we have a therapeutic classroom, available to all teens.  We work classroom time into each teen’s treatment plan daily, so that teens have the time to stay current with school work, to accelerate studies, and/or work on short or long term academic goals.  Our in-school teacher is also present to work with teens, during this time.  For full details and information on our Paradigm San Francisco Classroom, read here.

Individualized Tutoring

One of the Educational Support Services we provide at Paradigm San Francisco is our Individualized Tutoring program.  Our tutors are highly skilled and often come to us from Stanford University and University of California Berkeley and are able to work with teens, one-on-one, in any particular subject or problem area teens need help with.  We find that these individualized tutoring sessions provide teens with invaluable support and also help them to build back confidence in their studies.  To read more our about Individualized Tutoring, click here.

Relapse Prevention

For Paradigm San Francisco teens and their families, we offer Relapse Prevention Education.  We strongly encourage teens and families to become knowledgeable and familiar with Relapse Prevention, as we believe it helps ensure teens’ lasting healing and recovery.  Our educational program includes information such as how to identify red flags, how to protect vulnerabilities, and how to take active prevention steps.  We also discuss teens and families’ specific questions and concerns, as they prepare to have their teens back at home.  Read more about our Relapse Prevention program here.

Psycho-Educational Services

In our extensive experience working with youth, we’ve learned that it’s common for teens and families to have many questions, as well as large gaps in their understanding, regarding the mental health and/or substance abuse conditions teens might are facing.  To this end, we’ve designed our Psycho-Educational Services program, in which we provide teens and families with clear, honest information, including things such as: how addiction develops, how it affects people psychologically, biologically, and emotionally; and current useful information from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).

Family Dynamics and Education

During our Family Dynamics and Education sessions, we work with teens and families to become aware of and evaluate how addiction affects family members and family dynamics, and how to make positive changes to improve the well-being of the entire family.  Addressing and supporting the health of the family unit provides instrumental support in furthering teens’ ongoing sobriety and recovery.  To read more, click here.

Medical Aspects of Addiction and Recovery

In these Educational sessions, we discuss the physical and mental impacts which alcohol and other substances have on the body.  During these discussions, we address topics such as neurological impacts, related physical risks and ailments, and current national Institute on Drug Abuse information and statistics.  Read more about these educational sessions here.

Emotional Management

Our Emotional Management educational sessions are designed to support teens struggling with substance abuse who also have difficulty identifying and communicating their emotions.  During these sessions we help teens learn skills and techniques to reflect upon their current feelings and thoughts, so they can more aptly communicate their current experience.  This process of reflection and communication is integral to teens’ individual and group therapy sessions and furthermore, their overall healing and recovery.  To learn more about our Teen Emotional Management program, click here.
